RT now provide pre-cut intumescent hinge pads for use on fire doors. Intumescent material is almost always a requisite for ironmongery to comply with the criteria within that items fire test certification i.e. as the item was fire tested with intumescent then that intumescent should also be present on-site.
Frequently, either no intumescent is offered with the item of hardware and therefore not installed OR it is installed with another type of intumescent, typically brought from the local builder's merchant. This practice invalidates the test evidence for the item.
To prevent the above scenario happening RT offer pre-cut intumescent hinge pads enabling the hinge to strictly comply with the test evidence to which it is in accordance.
RT hinge pads are "Interdens". Interdens is a Mono Ammonium Phosphate based Intumescent, however this is mixed with a fibre glass carrier. The strands of fibreglass within the pad create a material, which has virtually no compression when used as a hinge pad, unlike the other types of intumescent.
Is is importent to note that Mono Ammonium Phosphate intumescent IS NOT ALWAYS INTERDENS. "INTERDENS" is a specific product and trade name of the BASF group. For RT hinge pads the intumescent is 1.0mm thick.
