As replacement to Swindon's Princess Margaret Hospital, the £100m Great Western Hospital is one of the first major UK healthcare projects procured under the Private Finance Initiative (PFI).
The 55,000 sq. metre project provides 400 in-patient beds, and all major departments required for Acute General Hospital status. The design has been subject to rigorous value engineering, risk analysis and life-cycle costing and has been procured through construction management with a clear supply chain management process, and scrutinised under the Government's Movement for Innovation.
This new development gave the Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust an exciting opportunity to ensure that health care provision in the 21st Century would place patients first. In line with current
best practice, the aspiration was to provide a high quality, integrated service, organised around individual needs.
The high levels of consistent performance on such a testing installation mean doors are supported by Royde & Tucker’s HI-LOAD hinges specified by IRM Bristol, the RT solution providing longevity and quality to an application that requires a 25 year guarantee.
